Mechanic's Assistant

FT/PT Status:Regular Full Time
  

Job Responsibilities:

Mechanic Helper Essential Duties:  

  • Helps mechanic perform maintenance and repairs such as tune-ups and oil changes, checks tires and brakes, replaces spark plugs and engages in other similar tasks. 
  • Assists mechanic with electrical systems such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights. 
  • Test drives vehicles to ensure repairs are completed property. 
  • Cleans the shop and returns tools to proper location. 
  • Maintains inventory of replacement parts and equipment. 
  • Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order. 
  • Updates maintenance and repair logs for vehicles. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Job Qualifications:
    Education and Other Requirements:  
    • Knowledge of vehicle repair. 
    • Ability to follow instructions. 
    • Ability to use power and hand tools. 
    • Ability to read service and repair manuals. 
    • Related experience preferred. 
    • Must be able to gain and maintain military base access.  
    • Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite.

  • Determine from which direction a sound came, such as voices of co-workers in noisy environments and sounds of operating equipment
  • Strength
  • Requires solo lifting of items up to 75 pounds
  • Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods
  • Use muscles for extended periods to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects, such as two people positioning 100+ pound equipment blades, carrying equipment parts, climbing onto equipment, and mounting tires onto trucks and construction equipment
  • Use impact tools, such as tire guns and sledgehammers, which cause body vibration
  • Be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Walk or run
  • Be able to walk or run moderate distances between tools, parts, and equipment in the shop or on a jobsite
  • Kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl/ bend, stretch, twist, or reach out/ climb or balance
  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm
  • Repeat the same movements, such as manually turning a wrench or climbing on and off equipment
  • Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place 
  • Coordinate movement of several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while the body is moving 
  • Keep or regain the body's balance or stay upright when in an unstable position   
  • Make fast, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists, such as performing quick, precise adjustments to machine controls
  • Perform tasks that require manual dexterity such as welding, assembling small parts, and pouring liquids into receptacles

  • Heights, such as on ladders and equipment
