Survey Party Chief

FT/PT Status:Regular Full Time
  

Job Responsibilities:
  • Participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, engineers, and contractor representatives
  • Assigns and monitors work, provides input for evaluation of field technicians
  • Instructs and trains technicians in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures
  • Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, to measure distances, elevations, and angles
  • Prepares field notes and drawings
  • Performs field surveying for projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines
  • Performs complex surveying calculations using engineering calculator, computer, and graphics and coordinate geometry (Cogo) software
  • Analyzes raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy
  • Provides survey information for Geographic Information System (GIS)
  • Prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports
  • Maintains field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems

Job Qualifications:
  • Five years of journey-level surveying experience, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the essential job duties
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain military base access
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • MVR must meet company’s insurance standards
  • Provide valid documentation for I-9
  • Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally lift, push, and pull up to 80 lbs.
  • Walk, sit, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift overhead, work at heights
  • Walk/work in rough terrain to access equipment, tools, materials, and job site to complete work
  • Use of hands to grasp and feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Hearing adequate to perform all tasks
  • Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift in all weather and temperature extremes
  • Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas
  • Ability to repeatedly stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, and twist throughout the workday and week

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment as needed to perform job tasks
  • Employee is regularly exposed to noise, dust, and various types of smells

  • Employee must be able to properly use and handle toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Employee is regularly exposed to wet, hot, and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, and outside weather conditions
  • Employee is expected to work in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work area
